THE steering group of the Historic Landscape Characterisation project for Clones Town has appointed consultancy team, from TKB Southgate Associates (Monaghan and Cork), led by Louise Harrington, an historic landscape historian. The team will be locally supported by Derek Cassidy from TKBSouthgate’s office in Clontibret.
Cllr Peter Mulligan, steering group member said “A project like this is long overdue in Clones. I’m delighted to be involved and encourage people to get involved in any public events that we hold to raise awareness of the project.”
ICllr Pat Treanor said “It is a golden opportunity for those who have stories and associations with buildings and monuments in the town to participate this heritage project that will provide a vision for Clones.”
As well as an information evening on 9 July, a Big Sketch event will be held in Clones during Heritage Week at the end of August, using built heritage of the town to inspire drawings and creativity.
Shirley Clerkin, Heritage Officer said “The Historic Landscape Characterisation of Clones is off to a great start. I can sense the support locally for this approach which will highlight the significant and unique character of Clones. There is no doubt that ‘Historic Clones’ will be put on the map with this project.”
Monaghan County Council Heritage Office organised the Historic Landscape Characterisation of Clones, jointly funded by the Heritage Council. The Historic Landscape Characterisation will identify the unique character, landscape and historic core of the town so that it can be understood, and promoted to help inform regeneration that enhances the distinctive qualities of the town.
