Prison sentence will never compensate families for their loss
28/02/2008
The family of one of the victims of the Lisnaskea car crash, which claimed the lives of four young people, have welcomed the sentence handed down to Daniel McDonnell, the driver of the car in which the four young people died.
Sandra Swift, speaking on behalf of Anita Swift's family, said they appreciated the seven year prison sentence handed down to Daniel McDonnell saying they felt it did reflect the severity of the case. "It will never compensate us as a family for the loss of Anita."
"His (McDonnell's) life is on hold while Anita's is tragically over," Sandra Swift said.
The family also pleaded with other young drivers to think before they take to the roads saying that drinking and speeding when driving don't work.

Inspector Ian Kennedy, the officer in charge of the case, said he was pleased the matter had come to a conclusion with the defendant receiving what the Inspector called a 'reasonably long sentence' in Northern Irish terms.
Inspector Kennedy said there were lessons to be learned here from this case and sent a message out to all young drivers that it could be them - either in the dock, or being buried - after going out for a Saturday night.
"You've got to have responsibility not just for yourself but for your passengers" the Inspector said.
"Sadly, in this case four young people lost their lives in a moment of madness', he continued.
Inspector Kennedy paid tribute to the families of the deceased young people saying they were dignified and respectable through all the court appearance and throughout the duration of this case. Mr Kennedy said he'd also like to thank all those who attended the scene for all they did in this case.
